Gijs Dreijer joined the Contextual Research in Law (CORE) in September 2017. He is currently engaged in a dual PhD degree at the University of Exeter (History Department) and the CORE research group. He studies the development of General Average (GA) in Bruges and Antwerp in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, by focusing on the municipal court cases from those cities and cases at the Great Council of Mechlin, as well as legal texts from the period.

His research interests include the legal and economic history of European chartered companies, the influence of the law on institutional development and social network analysis (SNA) for legal-historical purposes.

Gijs Dreijer received his Research MA in History (cum laude) from Leiden University in 2017 and worked for the Huygens Institute for Dutch History during that same year on a Digital Humanities project. In September 2017, he started his PhD research.
