BuCo Organization

BUCO, amongst others, coordinates and promotes research activities of the members of the Center for Private Law (general contract law), the Center for Business Law and Corporate Governance (business transactions) and the Center for Administrative Law (as regards contracts with public authorities) who concentrate their research on contracts in the business context to enhances the study of typical legal mechanisms applicable to business contracts from different perspectives and insights brought together the members of the different Centers.

Prof. Dr. R. Feltkamp

Régine Feltkamp holds a law degree from the University of Brussels (VUB 1995), a master degree in Business Law from the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB 1997) and a doctoral degree from the University of Brussels (VUB 2004) with a dissertation on the assignment of receivables. In 2007, she was appointed as professor of law at the University of Brussels (VUB) and currently teaches the course "Selected topics of contract law", “Principles of private law” and “Law on property”. Prior to her appointment, she regularly lectured on issues of Financial and Monetary Law, Corporate Law, Commercial Law, Contract law. From 1995 to 2001 she was teaching assistant at the University of Brussels (VUB) within the fields of Commercial law and Economic law.

Régine Feltkamp is regularly invited as a speaker on various subjects of economic and commercial law and has co-organized several law conferences herself together with the Department of Economic Law of the Free University of Brussels (Vrije Universiteit Brussel) and with the AEDBF-Belgium (European Association for Banking and Financial Law). She is now chairing the research unit Business & contracts created in 2009 at the VUB.

Régine Feltkamp is member of the editorial committee of several law journals and member of the Board of directors of AEDBF-Belgium.

Régine Feltkamp was admitted to the Brussels Bar in 1998 and after having worked in the international law firm Coudert Brothers LLP, Coppens Van Ommslaghe & Faurès (until 2005) and in the independent Belgian law firm Eubelius in 2005, she is now founding partner of MODO Advocaten/Avocats. Her area's of specialization are Commercial and Contract Law, Financial Law and Collateral Law and Energy Law. In these fields of interest she has a solid experience in drafting and negotiating business contracts.

Jens Debièvre

Jens is a part-time junior researcher with the Centre for Public Law of the VUB. He currently prepares a PhD on policy agreements (Dutch: convenants/ French: conventions sectorielles). He is also a visiting VUB professor (2009-2010) for the course in Administrative Contracts (2nd MA). In addition, Jens is a lawyer at the Brussels Bar (Lydian Lawyers). At Lydian, he advises public authorities as well as private clients on administrative law issues, in particular questions regarding governmental organization, public contracts (administrative contracts), budgetting and public-private partnerships.

Elke Janssens

Elke Janssens received her law degree from the University of Brussels (Vrije Universiteit van Brussel, VUB) in 1996. In 1998, she obtained an LL.M in business law from ULB in 1998 (Université Libre de Bruxelles) and a master in management from VUB in 2001. She also followed an executive MBA at the Solvay Business School in 2006-2007. She was admitted to the Brussels Bar in 1997.

Elke Janssens focuses on general corporate and financial law. She advises listed companies and has assisted in several public offerings. She also regularly acts in negotiations for public and private M&A transactions.

Elke Janssens is the author of numerous publications in the fields of corporate and financial law. She is also a member of the editorial board of various law journals (T.Fin.R, RABG, TVS) and regularly lectures at seminars.

After being a part-time assistant, Elke Janssens became in 2001 a voluntary co-worker at the department 'Business Law' at the VUB and a member of the department ‘Business Contracts’.

Frederic Vanbossele

Frédéric Vanbossele is a scientific faculty member of the economic law department at the Free University of Brussels (VUB). In addition, Frédéric is a lawyer at the Brussels Bar. As Counsel at Jones Days, Frédéric practices in the areas of corporate and commercial litigation, with a special focus on media. He regularly represents Belgian and foreign companies in national and international disputes before the courts. He also assists them with their operations in Belgium in corporate law, contract law, and business practices. Through the years, Frédéric also has developed extensive experience in handling product liability matters. Frédéric is also the author of the French version of the draft of Belgian Economic Code.



Participating Members

The members of BuCo are recognized experts in their field of expertise. Most of them are practitioners with a solid experience in business practices and have close connections with relevant national and international institutions (VBO, CBFA, Assuralia, FOD Economie, …).

In addition most members are members of the board of national or international law journals in the concerned field of research (T.B.H., R.W., T. Fin. …) or member of associations active in the field of research (AEDBF, …).
