Marlies presented her research work on the development of lignin-based healable and reprocessable networks based on the thermoreversible furan-maleimide Diels-Alder reaction at the virtual Young Researcher Belgian Polymer Group annual meeting. Lignin is a vast source of bio-aromatics that can be found in waste streams of a.o. paper industry waste streams. The lignin integration improves the thermal and mechanical properties of the reversible polymer networks significantly. Moreover, their healing capacity and processing opportunities were repeatedly tested and showed promising and reproducible results.
