I Studied for a BSc Hons in Chemistry with Catalysis at University of St Andrews (Scotland) from 2000-2004.
I completed a PhD titled "Preparation and Testing of Novel Biodegradable Surfactants based on Poly(lactic acid) Via A One-Step Ring Opening Polymerization Reaction" in 2008.
I began working at the Vrije Universiteit Brussels in December 2008 working in the area of Polymer Synthesis and Carbon Nanotube Composite materials. In my tenure at the VUB, I have helped kickstart Polymer synthesis within FYSC by creating a varied laboratory course in Polymer Synthesis and in the aquisition of equipment and management of the laboratory and facilities. In my time at the VUB I have aquired skills in Gel Permeation Chromatography, Electron Micrsocopy, AFM and the many thermal analysis techniques that FYSC is reputed for.
My current research interests are in Carbon Nanotube Composites and dispersion technologies for Carbon Nanotubes, emulsion polymerization and microencapusulation technology.
a self healing strategy will be developed for reinforced concrete. Possible routes are (i) a coating on the concrete (ii) coating on the steel rebars (iii) water absorbing polymers in the concrete.
