Self-healing Actuators for Robotic Applications

This research has the ambitious overall objective to develop a SH-compliant actuator, that can fully autonomously self-heal after being damaged. These damages can occur due to over-loading of the actuator or sharp objects present in unstructured environments. The implementation of SH-materials in compliant actuator designs will lead to a reduction of the over-dimensioning and eventually to lighter, more ecient designs. SH-materials will also have a bene cial impact on sustainable manufacturing of actuators, since the life span (MTTR: mean time to repair) can be drastically increased, even under unpredictably heavy conditions.
