Student Lennert Van Rompaey finalist in Dopper Changemaker Challenge

Imagine cultivating future resources for construction, using the waste of other industries. That is what graduating student Lennert Van Rompaey will study during his master-thesis research at VUB Architectural Engineering. In his research 'Design for Degradation', supervised by Lars De Laet together with Elise Elsacker, Lennert will focus on creating bricks that contain plastic waste, biodegraded by fungi, and that are compostable after the service life of the structure in which they will be used.

On June 15, 2019 this innovative research idea was elected as one of the 10 finalists of the Dopper Changemaker Challenge, with The Netherlands, Belgium, the UK, Germany and Nepal as participating countries. The proposal, successfully presented by Lennert in Amsterdam was selected for its potential impact, its level of innovation, and actual feasibility.

Congratulations Lennert!
