ARCH welcomes professor Stephanie Van de Voorde

Stephanie Van de Voorde takes up a tenure track position in Architectural and Construction History and Heritage at the Department of Architectural Engineering at VUB from October 1, 2020.

Transcending traditional perspectives in architectural history and heritage studies, Stephanie will focus on the twofold correlation between Architecture and Construction, in both History and Heritage. Stephanie will further engage in the consolidation of Construction History as an international, multidisciplinary research discipline and in the development of a new framework for young heritage. She will give courses on Architectural and Construction History, History of Urban Planning and Theoretical Reflections on Monument Care.

Trained as an architectural engineer, Stephanie has a profound knowledge on 20th century building materials and building culture. She co-organized the Sixth International Congress on Construction History (6ICCH, Brussels, 2018) and co-edited the proceedings ‘Building Knowledge, Constructing Histories’. Stephanie is also a founding member of the International Federation for Construction history and co-chairs the research group Construction Histories Brussels. In relation to the field of heritage, she is a member of the editorial board of the bimonthly journal M&L. Monumenten, Landschappen en Archeologie, and an Expert Member of the ICOMOS International Scientific Committee 20th Century (ISC20C).

For the department, the appointment of Stephanie Van de Voorde means a reinforcement of the current expertise in the fields of Construction History and Architectural Heritage.
