Elise Elsacker awarded doctoral degree for her PhD 'Mycelium Matters'

On April 20, 2021, Elise Elsacker successfully defended her interdisciplinary doctoral thesis entitled "Mycelium Matters - An interdisciplinary exploration of the fabrication and properties of mycelium-based materials" under the supervision of prof. dr. ir. arch. Lars De Laet (VUB - Architectural Engineering) and prof. dr. ir. Eveline Peeters (VUB - Microbiology). Elise was awarded the degree of Doctor in Engineering Sciences at VUB.

The jury unanimously congratulated Elise for "the rigor, scope of ambition and breadth of scientific insights produced that have relevance to a breadth of disciplines based on the evidence provided in both the written thesis and the verbal presentation."

Elise conducted her Phd with a 'PhD Fellowship strategic basic research (SB)' from the Research Foundation Flanders (FWO).
