From recycling to the end of waste

Tuesday, 22 January, 2013 - 14:00 to Tuesday, 22 January, 2013 - 18:00
ICAB, Room Madera
Witte Patersstraat 4, 1040 Brussel
Kick-off Project

The use of plastics is a complex thing. Over the years it has brought us many advantages. Plastics are cheap to produce, strong, easy to be moulded, resistant to water, odors and bacteria, light in weight… Yet, their popularity has also led to a rise in plastic waste which causes many environmental problems.

The use of biopolymers and biodegradable plastics could be part of the solution, yet a severe focus on the prevention of waste, the re-use and recycling and recovery of plastics is perhaps even more important.

This first workshop in the project Progress in Plastics focuses on the state of the art and future challenges in the production and recycling of (biobased) plastics. It also considers the end of life options, and ends with a perspective on future research and applications.

  • 15.00-15.30: End-of-life options: is our choice limited to recycling or wasting? (Bernard Merkx - Vereniging Kunststof Recyclers, NL)
  • 15.30-16.00: Q&A
