Learning objectives

The purpose of this course is to make the student acquainted with those items that makes marketing in China so particular:

-          how big is the real Chinese market

-          what makes the Chinese consumer different from its western counterpart

-          how about public relations in China

-          advertising in China: particularities, pitfalls,…

-          how to build a brand in China

The course also aims at learning the student how to discover business opportunities, how to make market studies and how to decide on the proper market entry mode.


None. Knowledge of marketing is an asset, but is not a prerequisite.


Marketing in China happens differently from the West. This is due to a.o. cultural factors, regional differences, developments in telecommunication technologies,… To an important extent a good understanding of marketing in China contributes to successful business in China.

-          Public relations
