Just For The Record – gender-neutral writing
Loraine Furter will shortly present the project Just For The Record, which raises awareness on the Gender Gap on Wikipedia and in the tradition of writing (history, news…). She will present a series of guidelines for gender-neutral writing, an analysis of a recent article published in the journal De Standaard and a list of inspiring women in the history of Brussels.
Just For The Record is a project addressing how gender is represented in new media and writing/publishing tools like Wikipedia, and what influence this has on the way history is recorded.
Loraine Furter is a Swiss graphic designer and researcher based in Brussels, specialized in editorial design and hybrid publishing. After having been the coordinator and curator of the 2014 edition of the Fernand Baudin Prize, a Belgian Best Book Design Award, she worked as a researcher and designer with the Hybrid Publishing Consortium at the Centre for Digital Cultures in the Leuphana Universität. She is now part of the Hybrid Publishing Group and works as an independent graphic designer and curator.
