The Discovery of Gravitational Waves: The Sound of Black Holes

Tuesday, 8 March, 2016 - 18:30
Campus: Brussels Humanities, Sciences & Engineering campus

Black holes

In order to celebrate the first observation of Gravitational Waves the Interuniversity Institute for High Energies IIHE(ULB-VUB) is hosting a seminar in English for the general public.

The Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) collaboration has announced two weeks ago the first direct observation of gravitational waves, predicted in 1916 by Albert Einstein. Dr. Chad Finley, from the IceCube neutrino telescope experiment, will tell us more about this discovery and the consequences for the future of science. The talk will be followed by a reception and a poster session on ULB-VUB related research.

  • 18:40 - 19:30 The Discovery of Gravitational Waves: The Sound of Black Holes: Dr. Chad FINLEY
