Corrosion: from analysis to modelling

Monday, 6 February, 2017 - 09:00 to Friday, 10 February, 2017 - 16:00
Campus: Brussels Humanities, Sciences & Engineering campus
SURF, Research Group Electrochemical and Surface Engineering
Advanced Electromechanical School for PhD students and industrial researchers

SURF - Doctoral School“Corrosion: from analysis to modelling” - February 6th – 10th 2017

Corrosion consumes up to 1-5% of a nation's GNP and induces both health and safety issues. An overview of the fundamentals of this phenomenon together with the understanding and application of highly advanced characterisation technologies are the aims of this advanced training.

  • novel insights into impedance spectroscopy and its application within corrosion research
  • a global package of complementary surface analysis techniques
  • an introduction to micro-electrochemical techniques applied to localised corrosion studies
  • theoretical modelling of corrosion phenomena: simulation and prediction

  • lectures by outstanding scientific and renowned experts in the field of corrosion
  • practical sessions
  • scientific discussions

The forthcoming training is also a great opportunity to establish new collaborations between the participants and industry.

The Doctoral School is open for Phd students and industrial researchers interested in thorough understanding of electrochemical phenomena. To assure the quality of the program and to enhance the interaction between the participants, the numbers will be limited to a maximum of 40 places. Therefore, a selection based on a Curriculum Vitae and motivation letter will be carried out.

A formal invitation letter will be sent to applicants to confirm the acceptance of participation.

An official Certificate of Participation will be provided at the end of the Doctoral School.

Registration Fee

PhD students: 300€

Industrial researchers: 2000€

The fee includes participation, meals (lunch & coffee breaks), an electronic version of the lessons and a social program.

Participants are responsible for making their own travel and accommodation arrangements. A list of recommended hotels will be available on our website.

Important Dates

  • January 27th 2017: Registration / payment deadline
  • February 6th – 10th 2017: Doctoral school
