CPDP 2017 Launch Event: Patterns, Profiling and PNR: The new PNR Directive and its implications
Rue de la Loi 61–63, 1000 Brussels
On 21 April 2016 the EU adopted a Directive on the use of passenger name record (PNR) data for the prevention, detection, investigation and prosecution of terrorist offences and serious crime. The Directive aims to regulate the transfer and processing of international air passengers' PNR data by Member States. The debate will address the concerns with regards to the implementation of this Directive - including the consequent suggestion by the Belgian Minister of Internal Affairs to also collect PNR data of train passengers - and the general implications of the Directive for data protection and fundamental rights.
We are delighted to welcome distinguished speakers, including special guest speaker Ms Sophie in t Veld (MEP),to the debate, which will be moderated by Mr Willem De Beuckelaere (Belgian Privacy Commissioner). More speakers will be confirmed soon. The panel discussion will be followed by a Q&A session, giving participants an opportunity to engage with discussants.
