Info Session Responsible Research & Innovation (RRI): What’s in it for me?

Monday, 27 February, 2017 - 12:00 to Monday, 27 February, 2017 - 14:00
Campus: Brussels Health Campus
Faculty Meeting Room
European Liaison Office
Lunch Seminar

Since 2011 the European Commission is pushing forward the concept of “Responsible Research and Innovation” (RRI) with the aim of fostering research and innovation in an inclusive and socially oriented way. RRI is a rather ‘new’ umbrella term for what most researchers are already doing; it gathers all R&I actors (research & education communities, policy makers, business & industry, and civil society organisations) and covers three key aspects:

  • Outcomes - Research & Innovation actors should work together towards ethically acceptable, socially desirable and environmentally sustainable products and services
  • Processes - Diversity & inclusion, anticipation & reflection, openness & transparency, and responsiveness & adaptive change should be actively sought at all stages of the research and innovation circle.
  • Key policy agendas – the following topics need to be specifically addressed:
    • Ethics & research integrity
    • Gender equality
    • Open access & open science
    • Public engagement
    • Science education

Looks great, but what’s in it for you?

A lot, including RRI in your H2020 proposal will strengthen it and will be necessary in the future to be competitive. RRI is key action of the ‘Science with and for Society’ programme and more importantly a key ‘cross-cutting issue’ in Horizon 2020. Within the specific objectives of H2020, actions can focus on thematic elements of RRI, as well as on more integrated approaches to promote RRI uptake.

In order to increase RRI at the VUB, the European Liaison Office hosts an information session on the 27th of February, addressing the following questions:

  • What is RRI and why is it important to researchers?
  • How can I get funding for it?
  • Where can I find tools/resources/support…
  • Q&A

This session includes a free lunch, which is why we ask you to register before the 22ndof February.
