Stewardship of Finance Conference

After the last financial and economic crisis promises have been made to bring about change. On a global scale, law-makers promised to do everything in their power to avoid a repetition of the 2007-2009 financial drama and thus to change the foundations of our monetary and financial systems. The Stewardship of Finance conferences aim to evaluate these promises and to investigate if changes really took place from a critical (inter)disciplinary perspective.

The texts of Stewardship of Finance conferences are published in the Series Economic and Financial Law & Policy – Shifting Insights & Values (Series Editors: Koen Byttebier & Kim Van der Borght) (Springer Verlag, Heidelberg)

Due to the extensive scope of ‘the end of financial alchemy’, two conferences have been organized to cover this subject. Where the focus of the first conference (11.05.17) lies on the monetary and financial systems, the second conference (20.12.17) focuses more on human and societal aspects. A peer-reviewed monograph will be published covering both conferences.

The peer-reviewed monograph will be published by Springer:

13.30-13.45: Reception and word of welcome

13.45-14.15: Hebben de Belgische openbare financiën nog een toekomst? (Is there a future for Belgian public finances?) - Herman Matthijs, Professor VUB

14.15-14.45: The current state of affairs of the Belgian economy. (De stand van de Belgische economie.) - Peter Claeys, Assistant Professor VUB

14.45-15.15: Coffee break

15.15-15.45: The path to an alternative monetary order. (Naar een alternatieve monetaire ordening.) - Koen Byttebier, Professor VUB

15.45-16.30: Final debate and closure of the conference
