Domestic and External Impacts of China's 40 Years Reform and Open-up:
43 Bd du Jardin Botanique, 1000 Brussels
The 40th anniversary of the Commencement of China's policy of opening and reform is an occasion to take stock, not just of the enormous domestic changes that have occured since 1978, but also of the impacts that these changes have had on Europe. In the last 40 years, China has undergone a domestic transformation, at the same time its relationship with the world, including Europe, has also been transformed. Not only has China's relationship with Europe evolved, but Europe itself has changed as a result of the new policy of reform and opening up. The impact of reform can be measured not only in terms of quantity, such as GDP growth, incomes, trade and investment flows, but also qualitatively. This workshop will discuss the domestic dimensions of opening and reform, and also how it has imacted Europe or vice versa; It will address the question not only of how reform and opening have changed China, but how it has changed Europe, and the relationship between the two countries. Panels will cover domestic poitics, economics, society, culture and their relationship with Europe.
