international conference - contactforum KVAB

This conference focusses on the poetry of the Austrian author Friederike Mayröcker (°1924). Friederike Mayröcker is an eminent and widely acclaimed author of poetry in German. Her work has received the main literary prizes in the German speaking world, such as the Friedrich-Hölderlin-Preis in 1993 and the Georg-Büchner-Preis in 2001, and honorary doctorates in Bielefeld (2001) and Innsbruck (2015). Most scholarship so far, however, has concentrated on her prose. This conference therefore puts Mayröcker’s extensive poetic work at the centre.

The starting point of this focus is given by Mayröcker’s volume Scardanelli (2009), which performs a dialogue with the life and work of Friedrich Hölderlin. Departing from these Hölderlin poems, the conference puts questions on the lyrical character of Mayröcker’s poetic oeuvre, that spans more than seventy years, centre stage.

The keynote lecture will be given by Daniela Strigl, literary scholar, essayist and author of numerous publications on Austrian literature in general and Mayröcker specifically. Her work has received some important prizes, such as the Österreichischer Staatspreis für Literaturkritik (2001) and the Berliner Preis für Literaturkritik (2015).

The conference takes place in German.
