Study Msc Engineering at VUB

Every year, the Faculty of Engineering welcomes a large number of international students to its Msc Degrees in Engineering, making it one of the most culturally diverse faculties at VUB. Future Msc students have the option to apply for 10 Msc degrees taught in English over a period of two years (120 ECTS). Five Msc Degrees fall under Bruface, the Brussels Faculty of Engineering, a joint initiative between VUB and ULB (Université Libre de Bruxelles). Three other degrees are joint with Universiteit Gent, and one other with KU Leuven. These programmes result in joint degrees for graduates, giving them a rich network and great prospects for the future job market. Discover below the programmes of each of the 10 Msc Degrees in Engineering:

All Msc degrees are taught in English over a period of two years (120 ECTS)

Why study Engineering at VUB

Students at the Faculty of Engineering are surrounded by driven professors and assistants, who teach with passion and are driven by delivering results for top notch research. Their knowledge and passion are shared with students everyday. Students often find themselves amid a wonderful world of theory, research and industry applications in Engineering. Teaching methods at VUB are also extermely valued for its one-to-one approach between professor and student, ofting acting as a mentor or guide throughout.

Bob Kaziri, Msc Electromechanical Engineering, International student from Burundi

"I received the opportunity to study at the VUB through the VLIR-UOS scholarship programme for Electromechanical Engineering. What I found particular positive about my experience at the VUB is the great support I received from my professors as they guided me through my study process with a sense of genuine interest and mentorship."

Engineering studens about their experience abroad

Be inspired by these testimonials!

My exchange abroad was a life-changing experience, an enlightenment and broadened my horizon: I learned a new language and discovered a new culture, I learnt to step outside my comfort zone and I opened my eyes to live my life in a more open and daring way. The professional and personal connections I made with local and international friends from all over world will last a lifetime and so will my memories of this great experience.

International students talk about their experience at VUB

VUBs international and multicultural identity reflects the city of Brussels at the vibrant heart of Europe

Sara Belarouf, Chemicals and Materials Engineering, Rabat University, Morocco

"As a PhD-student from Morocco, my 5-month exchange to VUB allowed me to carry out more laboratory analyses, working with a wealth of materials, tools, machines and products that I did not have access to before. In addition, I have also improved my English by talking to my professors who were extremely supportive of my research by providing new insights and thoughts."

Internationalisation at home

Engineering students can benefit from a wide range of internationalisation at home initiatives throughout the academic year

Initiatives as part of the Faculty

Erasmus Student Network

The ESN Buddy programme brings local and international students together to explore the university, culture and local customs

International Summer Schools

Every year, the Faculty of Engineering hosts a Summer School for Chinese students. The BEST network organises several summer initiatives for Engineering students across Europe.

Guest professors and virtual classes

The 10 Msc Degrees welcome every year a number of guest professors, sometimes in combination with virtual classes or MOOCs

VUB students about internationalisation at VUB

These initiatives give all students a chance to broaden their horizons with regard to internationalisation

The ESN Buddy Programme ensures that there is a great connection between local students and international students to make them feel welcomed and settled in. Often local students in our programme do not have the opportunity yet to go abroad, and this gives them a great opportunity to experience internationalisation at their home university.

Paola Mureddu, Buddy Coordinator ESN VUB EhB Brussels

Out of sight but not out of mind

The Faculty likes to keep up to date with its alumni: their successes, engagements, initiatives and professional activities inspire the next generation of VUB engineers.

Alumni

The Brussels Engineering Alumni (BREA) is an alumni organisation that represents all Engineering students at VUB and ULB. They organise lots of annual activities in close cooperation with the Faculty.

VUB Fellows

VUB Fellows are persons from the industry, civil society, the cultural industry or politics, who share their knowledge and expertise with the Faculty and VUB for a period of three years.

Please find here more information about the Fellows associated with the Faculty of Engineering.
