Introduction

The goal is to continue the course program that comprises "railway technology", and that is object of the agreement ULB-VUB-Infrabel of 10/09/2007. At ULB this program is organised within the course "master ingénieur civil électromécanicien à finalité Elecro-mécanique, option « Vehicle and Transport »"At VUB the program will continue to be organised in light of the course "Master of Science in de Ingenieurswetenschappen: Werktuigkunde – Elektrotechniek", afstudeerrichting “Voertuigtechnologie en transport”The joint VUB-ULB English taught Bruface programs will continue the program under the heading of the “Master of Science in Electromechanical Engineering”, option “Vehicle and Transport” program. 

Goals

The students in these programs will follow the course “Railways Infrastructure Technology” in their first years. They will be offered the possibility to conduct their “Master I project” in cooperation with Infrabel in the domain of railway technology. In the second year of the program the students will have the opportunity to do an internship at the Infrabel corporation. In preparation they are presented with a list of recommended elective courses. The program allows graduates to easily commence a career with railway coorporations. In light of the course “Electric Traction”, the lectures and company visits, organised for the course “Railways Infrastructure Technology”, that specifically deal with electric traction, will also be followed by students from the following programs: 

  • "Master ingénieur civil électromécanicien, option « Energie »" (ULB);
  • "Master of Science in de Ingenieurswetenschappen: Werktuigkunde – Elektrotechniek", afstudeerrichting “Energie” (VUB);
  • “Master of Science in Electromechanical Engineering”, option “Energy” (Bruface).

Chairholder: Prof. Philippe Lataire

Prof. dr. Philippe Lataire obtained his PhD in Applied Sciences in 1982 at VUB. He is currently a fulltime professor at VUB in the field of power electronics, automatic control and electric drives. The main actors of his research deal with the area of electric drives, power electronics and control.
