Last Friday 1 May, the Milano’s World Fair 2015 opened its doors to the public. The ‘EXPO 2015’ will last till 31 October and explores the theme ‘Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life’.
Researchers at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) have developed a new type of optical fibre together with their Polish colleagues of the Institute for Materials Technology (ITME). This optical fibre will allow endoscopic imaging in extremely narrow (less than 0.5 millimetre) places in the body.
Sophie Viaene has won the best poster award at the Annual Symposium of the IEEE Photonics Benelux Chapter on Tuesday November 26th in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. The best poster committee appreciated Sophie's ability to present a difficult subject in a clear and concise way.
Vincent Ginis, who is attached to the Applied Physics (APHY) research group of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel as a doctoral student, was awarded the renowned scholarship of The Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE) on Wednesday 22 August in San Diego, USA.
For the academic year 2012-2013, Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Bureau for Development Cooperation) will award four scholarships for the programme Master of Photonics Science and Engineering (120 ECTS credits). The Vrije Universiteit Brussel offers the Master of Photonics Science and Engineering jointly with Ghent University (UGent). This master programme wants to provide students a solid knowledge in photonics and give them the ability to apply theory into design, realisation and management of photonic systems. Deadline for application is 31st October 2011.
