Horizon2020: MOBI participates in 3 new European projects

MOBI, the Mobility, Logistics and Automotive Technology research centre of the VUB recently became partner in three European projects: CITYLAB, ELIPTIC and FiveVB. These projects are framed within Horizon2020, a European Union funded programme that envisions breakthroughs by combining research and innovation.

CITYLAB concerns city logistics in urban areas. The project aims to develop knowledge and solutions towards an emission free city, with the urban areas of Brussels, London, Oslo, Paris, Rome, Rotterdam and Southampton as ‘living laboratories’.

ELIPTIC develops case-study business models for the further electrification of public transport in a number of cities in Europe. MOBI will focus on the progressive electrification of the bus network in Brussels. The core pillars of ELIPTIC concern a safe integration of e-buses into the existing electric public transport infrastructure, as well as upgrading this infrastructure through the implementation of advanced energies storage systems and the development of its multi-purpose use.

Within the FiveVB project, a novel battery cell with a rated voltage of five Volt will be developed. The project aims to improve the state-of-the-art lithium-ion battery which is mainly used for electric and hybrid vehicles. FiveVB guarantees a subsequent industrialization, supporting the development of a strong and competitive European battery industry.
