Preimplantation genetic screening has been performed for almost two
decades as a method to improve morphology based embryo selection in
patients with high embryo numerical chromosomal abnormalities rates
(Advanced maternal age (AMA), recurrent miscarriage (RM) and recurrent
implantation failure (RIF)).

The studies included on the present thesis show that PGS does not perform
better than morphological evaluation in young women undergoing SET nor
on advanced maternal age women as shown by the systematic review of
the literature. Further research is needed on the application of embryo
chromosomal assessment in couples undergoing ICSI because of
azoospermia. Patients repeating PGS treatment have a high chance of
finding at least one euploid embryo to transfer. The best available
evidence does not support the use of PGS in recurrent miscarriage and
