Want to interact with your fellow (international) students about the state of the world and exchange your ideas and experiences in a congenial atmosphere? UCOS – the University Centre on Sustainable Development – invites you to its master class on 'Sustainable world cities? Exchanging ideas on urban environments around the globe'

Today at least half of the world’s population lives in small or large cities around the globe. At the occasion of the Rio+20 UN Conference on Sustainable Development – taking place in June of this year – we have to ask ourselves how we can make sure that these urban environments become sustainable?

Two speakers will provide an introduction, afterwards there will be ample time to exchange experiences from you own countries of origin and professional expertise. Possible questions could be:

- Are cities around the world today more or less sustainable than rural environments?

- What are relevant examples from around the world on urban sustainability?

- How can we make sure that cities in the future become more sustainable? What can science teach us and how can we as young professionals contribute? What is the contribution of different disciplines?

Confirmed speakers

  • Dr. Ahmed Zaib Khan Mahsud (Cosmopolis): “Sustainable Urbanism: a global perspective”
  • Le Xuan Quynh (Human Ecology): “Urbanisation and sustainable development: Challenges from a South East Asian perspective”

Refreshments will be provided! Register by Tuesday May 8th by sending an e-mail to: bram.cleys@ucos.be.
