Open Science. The key to more scientific integrity?
Join the Ideafest on Open Science with Jimmy Wales, co-founder of Wikipedia, and Michel Bauwens, Peer tot Peer Activist, on the October 24th at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel.
THE ISSUE
Scientists are people too. They make mistakes. Or – even worse – commit fraud. The question is: how can we better detect and avoid scientific mistakes and misconduct?
THE SOLUTION
Make scientific data, research and publications free to everyone. After all, more eyes make for more scrutiny. This should provide an additional safeguard against scientific fraud.
THE DIFFICULTIES
Open acces? easier said then done. Which research data should be put online? What about the good old peer review? Where do scientific publishers fit in? Question aplenty.
The guest speakers
peer-to-peer activist Michel Bauwens
Michel Bauwens is writer and founder of the Foundation for Peer-to-Peer Alternatives and explores peer production, governance and property with a global group of researchers.

Jimmy Wales, keynote speaker
As co-founder of Wikipedia, Jimmy Wales considerably democratized the access to knowledge. Today, he is helping the British government build an internet platform that will provide open access to British research.
