Department of Mechanics of Materials and Constructions (MEMC-VUB), Faculty of Engineering
International Conference

In times where structures and materials dominate our life, there is a strong need to monitor and characterise their performance in terms of strength, toughness and durability without damaging them. Exploring their inner format and behavior with innovative techniques called Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Methods is a much debated issue in engineering community. Apart from its inherent safety, NDT provides condition assessment and therefore, enables the economic maintenance of structures by prioritising them in terms of risk of failure.

For the first time since its launch, the 6th International Conference on Emerging Technologies in Non-Destructive Testing- ETNDT6 will be held in its country of origin, Belgium. The Department of Mechanics of Materials and Constructions of Vrije Universiteit Brussel (MEMC -VUB - Faculty of Engineering), dedicated to its university’s internationalisation strategy, as well as the promotion of research and knowledge, is welcoming this important event at the Etterbeek Campus of VUB on the 27th until the 29th of May 2015.

The focus and scientific interest is targeted on Non-Destructive Techniques (NDT) in materials and structures.  This is a subject of worldwide significance, with great social impact as it is strongly related to the detection of damage in engineering structures, such as buildings, bridges, aircrafts etc., using non-invasive techniques (ultrasound, X-rays, Radar, thermography, acoustic emission). The ETNDT6 Conference aims to provide the latest developments in these techniques and to create the exchange of ideas among scientists and industry with the aim to disseminate significant knowledge for academia and society.

MEMC-VUB is conducting top scientific and interdisciplinary research in the field of NDT. The department has a dynamic team of experts, professors and researchers. Along with other Belgian universities, through funded projects, they work towards innovative techniques and the improvement of already existing methods, in a society where safety and durability of structures has proven to be lifesaving in times of natural crises, seismic activities and other disasters.
