maandag, 26 november, 2018 - 13:00 to dinsdag, 27 november, 2018 - 16:15
master class

In this master class Vineeta Sinha - Head of Department at the Department of Sociology as well as at the South Asian Studies Programme at the National University of Singapore invites young researchers to practice anthropological imagination and critically reflect on the dilemmas generated by religion’s location at the interstices of capitalism, post-modern consciousness and popular culture. How does one approach the need for material objects in religious practices and their inevitable entry as commodities into the capitalist system of social relations? How does ‘materiality’ and ‘ritual practice’ intersect in the domain of everyday religiosity?

This master class aims to bring together scholars from different disciplines researching the relationship between sexuality, gender, religion and ethical life in contemporary society. This means that the master class will be of interest to PhD students working in the disciplines of sociology, anthropology, feminist and queer studies, religious studies, urban studies, philosophy, …

The activity is part of the conference ‘Sexual and Gendered Moralities’, which will take place in the city of Ghent at Zebrastaat from 26-27 November 2018. The event is organized and hosted by ECSO, Research Group on Ethics, Culture and Society, an interuniversity collaboration between the Centre for Research on Culture and Gender at Ghent University and RHEA Centre of Expertise on Gender, Diversity and Intersectionality at the VUB.
