PERFORMING NEW WORK AND DISCUSSING LITERARY EXPERIMENT & PERFORMANCE ALTERNATIVES

HOSTED BY DR. HANNAH VAN HOVE

Jennifer K Dick is Maître de Conférences at the Université de Haute Alsace, Mulhouse. She completed her Comparative Literature PhD at the Université de Paris III-la Sorbonne Nouvelle. Dick’s academic research explores poetry and visual art/literary practices in contemporary American and European Literature as well as postmodern poetic autobiography. She co-organizes the residencies Ecrire l'Art with La Kunsthalle Mulhouse Centre d'Art Contemporain: a book of texts from this project, Dossier des ouvrages exécutés, was just published (Kunsthalle editions / les presses du reel, 2019). Jennifer is a translator of French poets including Vannina Maestri and Jérôme Mauche and the author of many books of poetry and prose; the newest is Lilith: A Novel in Fragments (Corrupt, 2019).

Lisa Samuels is the author of many books of poetry, memoir, and prose, including Symphony for Human Transport, a Guardian 2017 top ten poetry book. Her essays and editing work focus on experimental modern transatlantic and transpacific literatures, and her theoretical innovations include deformance, bioautography, soft text, and wild dialectics. She also collaborates with composers, makes soundwork and visual art, and works with film, including Tomorrowland (2017, directed by Wes Tank and based on Lisa’s book). Professor of English and Drama at the University of Auckland in Aotearoa/New Zealand, Samuels earned her PhD at the University of Virginia and is currently a visiting artist-scholar at VUB. Her new book of prose-poetry and photographs is The Long White Cloud of Unknowing (Chax, 2019).

Organisers for CLIC (VUB): Prof. dr. Elisabeth Bekers and dr. Hannah Van Hove (havhove@vub.be)
