Private security services in Europe: a partner in preventing crime

The Brussels Diplomatic Academy will shortly organise a New Master class: Private security services in Europe: a partner in preventing crime.

The European private security services sector became a complementary partner to the public security system. Private policing, inspection, justice and intelligence are nowadays economic realities. They operate in close relationship with the state, the society and the market. In Europe different models of cooperation do exist between the public and the private security system. Within the four existing White Papers on Private Security (Paris 2008, Stockholm 2009, Brussels 2010 and Madrid 2013) EU-member states have the choice to develop their own approach: junior-partnership, loss prevention, integrated security concern, police complex and public-private divide model. The course is aimed at:

  • Diplomatic staff
  • Public security officers
  • Corporate board members
  • Private security and/or risk officers
  • HR-managers

By the end of the seminar, the students should be able to:

  • Understand its historical background
  • Have insight knowledge on the legal aspects
  • Overview EU-initiatives towards private security

The working language of the seminar will be English. Participants to the seminar will receive a certificate of attendance from the Brussels Diplomatic Academy of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel.
