VUB at Shanghai Jiao Tong's cultural week

In the morning of 28 October 2013 the Belgian week at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (JTU) was officially opened in Shanghai (China). Among many distinguished guests the Belgian Consul general Cathy Buggenhout was attending. VUB was one of 2 Belgian universities present during this week. Both JTU and VUB have the ambition to give students exchange opportunities in each other’s institutions.

At the opening ceremony VUB made quite an impression: A Belgian contemporary art exhibition was launched at the JTU Library center by Carl W. Jacobs under supervision of Hans De Wolf. One of the artists on exhibition, Koen Theys, was also present. And for Chinese chocoholics a Belgian chocolate fountain was installed in front of the building. Students appeared eager to get a taste of Brussels!

On Wednesday 30 October 2013 an entire day of lectures and presentations was organized by the VUB delegation: Matthias Vanhullebusch, Kim Van der Borght, Karen Spruyt, Hans De Wolf, Jacqueline Couder, Xiaohong Tong and Rob Vandereycken. The chocolate fountain worked its magic once more in one of the JTU student restaurants. And the VUB day was concluded with a Hollywood production by Steven Spielberg: ‘Tintin, the secret of the unicorn’.

VUB is actively working on worldwide university partnerships. In this day and age all students should have the opportunity to study abroad. And when they do, a completely different setting appears to be the best adventure. Shanghai Jiao Tong and VUB intend to elaborate on this idea.
