Online Sports mix lessons - 2nd semester

THE ONLINE SPORTS MIX LESSONS RESUME AGAIN AT THE START OF THE 2ND SEMESTER, FROM 8 FEBRUARY 2021.

Unfortunately, it is still no longer possible for you to practice your favorite sports activity with us ... but don't worry, VUB / EHB Sport will come to your home! We are going to keep going virtual and will stream some of our most popular group lessons from our sports mix live!!
These live streaming lessons are only accessible to VUB sportspunch card holders and EHB sports sticker holders, and still subject to reservation via the Nova Sport application!
An advantage of these live stream lessons is that we can now allow more people to participate virtually in these lessons !!
So don't hesitate, make some space in your living room or even better in your garden and welcome us at your home.

Please note that our videos must be used strictly within the educational framework of VUB / EHB Sport and may not be broadcast outside the private framework without permission.

FREE MINDFULNESS CLASSES FOR VUB STAFF AND STUDENTS

Our rector’s slogan ‘The World Needs You’ is gradually becoming known at VUB. If we are to work towards a better society, we also have to take care of ourselves. A healthy mind in a healthy body, the traditional slogan of the Olympics, certainly applies here, and connects with many of the six Ps of the VUB project DWHJN.

That’s why VUB Sport, in collaboration with the M&O department, is offering various mindfulness sessions for a month. These will take place three times a day (morning, midday and evening) from Monday 16 November until Friday 18 December. The focus will always be adapted to the time of day and the day of the week. What is mindfulness?
The long-term isolation imposed as a result of the strict coronavirus measures has forced us into a new way of living. This requires a change of reality for all of us. And that’s not always easy for everyone. Social interaction in the past months has been at a minimum, creating a sense of loneliness that can lead our minds to lose the focus they need to properly carry out our daily tasks and activities.

During this series of online meditation sessions, you will be shown how to develop constructive and positive thoughts that can increase your feelings of wellbeing. Through the methods of Gregory Parry from the Wellness Foundation, we will provide more understanding of our emotions, improve our mental resilience, ensure better sleep and boost our creativity and effectiveness.

Specific aims of this series:

  • Better posture
  • Understanding of the importance of proper breathing and how to apply the correct breathing techniques
  • Better control of emotional influences
  • Strong “mind management”
  • A positive look at our professional and private lives with a better work-life balance as a result

How to take part?
The sessions are exclusive and free to VUB students and staff. They are organised via Teams. As a student or member of staff you can log in to a session from 16 November to 18 December for a morning, midday or evening session via the following Teams links:

What do I need to take part?
A PC, laptop, tablet or smartphone with a good connection to Teams via internet, 4-10m² free space anywhere in the world, and an hour of free time to spend on one of the three daily moments each weekday when the mindfulness streaming take place… and you’re ready to join in!

NB: These lessons will mainly take place in English.

In this time when options for sport are limited to our homes, or with a maximum of four people outdoors, the sports department is offering a number of variants via the online Sport!Mix. This includes Pilates, Yoga, Bodymix and other fun digital variations. So you’ll have the opportunities you need to move each week to stay mentally and physically strong this autumn. No access to the Mix activities? Then there is the free weekly Pilates session via Teams for students and staff.

Conditions for participation and privacy agreement

  • Participants connect to a session by clicking on the link (“click here to join the meeting”) mentioned in the communication. Out of respect for the coach and other participants, please join the session no more than five minutes before or five minutes after the indicated start time.
  • To optimally follow the session, we recommend that you make the coach’s video feed the central screen in Teams. Click on the three dots (…) next to the name Christopher Page and select “pin”. This will make the coach’s screen the central screen.
  • Names of participants will not be shared with others. The only data that will be registered is the coach’s lesson and the number of participants per session. All other data will be deleted immediately after the session. 
  • For your own privacy: with the permission of the coach, lessons will be recorded so that they can be viewed again later. If you wish to take part anonymously, we advise you to turn off your camera and microphone when you log in to the session.​​​​​​​

Biking

Belgium is a country of Flandriens… with some nice routes available in every region.

Meet up with a maximum of 3 friends, keep your distance from each other and others, put on your raincoat during this time of the year, get on your bike and discover the beautiful places in your own region.

Walking

Walking is another ideal activity to do in these special times. Accessible to everyone. Alone or in a group of maximum 4 people. With the necessary distance from each other and in the fresh autumn air with beautiful landscapes under our feet.

As far as running is concerned, this is of course also an ideal activity. Again, you can practice this anywhere, anytime and with anyone (please note, here too, stick to the legal maximum of a group of 4).

WHAT IS THE NOVA SPORT APP?

Nova Sport is a network for all university/ college sports communities in Belgium.
Once you have created your account, you can make a reservation to participate in the activities of the sports mix or to come and swim in the VUB pool, but also to get in touch with other people within the VUB/EHB community with whom you have common sports interests.
You can also set up/create your own sports activities and invite people to do so.
