Programme changes
Programme changes may take place annually. Some of them are rather limited (e.g. a change of title of a course) and have no further impact on your study path. Others are more drastic (e.g. changes in the number of credits, merging of two courses, creation of a new course...) and can have an impact on the further course of your study programme or year programme.
If a programme change has an impact on your track, you will be informed of it by e-mail at the start of the new academic year.
Subject-specific teaching methodologies
As part of the Educational Master, you will specialise in two subject-specific teaching methodologies. Your prior qualifications determine which ones you are eligible for direct entry to. An overview of these can be found in this document.
Would you like to include a subject-specific teaching methodology to which you do not have direct access? This is possible if you have acquired sufficient prior academic knowledge through your previous studies (60 ECTS for languages, 30 ECTS for the other subject-specific teaching methodologies). Please complete this form and send your academic transcripts to lerarenopleiding@vub.be. Your enquiry will then be put to the subject specialist, who will assess whether you can commence the module.
Study path exceptions
Do you want to apply for an exception to your study path?
Teacher in training
Do you already teach in secondary, higher, adult or special education? Then you can potentially follow the educational master's as a Teacher-in-training (LIO). As LIO, you follow the classes with the other students, but do less or no work placement. You apply the (adapted) assignments to your own teaching practice.
You can apply for LIO facilities using the form below. We will take the following into account when processing your application:
- Whether or not you teach in the 2nd and/or 3rd grade of secondary education;
- Whether the subjects you teach match the teaching methodology subjects you have chosen;
- For how many hours per week you are appointed.
Spreading scenarios
Balancing work and studying can be difficult, to make this balance more manageable you can spread your courses over multiple years.
