In a nutshell
Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), with the support of the Helios Foundation, invites applications for four US Collaboration Research Chairs in the broad domains of climate, sustainability, and well-being. The programme includes three full-time and one part-time chairs, each for a duration of three years.
This call aims to support outstanding researchers currently based in the United States whose work has been constrained by current geopolitical circumstances. By offering positions within a stable and supportive academic environment in Europe, VUB seeks to enable these scholars to continue their research, develop new international collaborations, and contribute to addressing major societal challenges.
Chair responsibilities
Selected researchers will:
- Pursue an independent, high-impact research agenda in collaboration with the hosting VUB research group
- Contribute to VUB’s research environment, including seminars and networking activities
- Prepare and submit competitive proposals for external funding (e.g., FWO and/or ERC) during the appointment
What we offer
- Three full-time Research Chair positions for a period of three years, each with total funding of €500,000
- One part-time Research Chair position for a period of three years, with total funding of €100,000.
- Integration within a VUB host research group
- Access to VUB research infrastructure and support services
Who can apply
We invite applications from researchers who:
- Hold a PhD degree by the time of application
- Demonstrate an excellent scientific profile
- Are currently based in the United States
- Are performing research on topics constrained by current geopolitical circumstances
- Are in contact or will get in contact with a VUB professor
