Vrije Universiteit Brussel invites you to the ERC lecture 'Who Benefits from the Digitalisation of News?' by Antonis Kalogeropoulos. The lecture will introduce you to INEQNEWS, a project addressing the growing disparities in how people consume news, acquire political knowledge and confront misinformation.
Tackling Inequalities in News Use, Knowledge and Misinformation
As more people around the world get online, it might seem that access to information is becoming more equal. Yet not everyone benefits equally from today’s digital news environment. INEQNEWS explores who gains and who is left behind when news moves to platforms such as social media, search engines, and mobile devices.
We study how differences in class, gender, and age shape people’s ability to find reliable news, learn about politics, and avoid misinformation. By comparing countries in both the Global North and the Global South and testing new interventions, we aim to identify practical ways to make digital news use more equal and to strengthen democratic participation.
The Lecture will be followed by a festive reception next to the green Room in the U-Residence.
