About Nobel Prize laureate Ben Feringa
Professor Ben Feringa is a Dutch chemist attached to the University of Groningen. In 2016, along with Jean-Pierre Sauvage and Fraser Stoddart, he won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for research on molecular nanomachines.
In 2011, he was the first person in the world to synthesise molecular motors that continue running under the influence of ultraviolet light. With his research group, he succeeded in developing a “nanocar with four-wheel drive”. In the future, this will enable revolutionary applications, such as transporting drugs through the bloodstream to a specific place in the body. For example, an anti-tumour drug that works on a tumour but leaves healthy tissue alone.
Evening programme in Bozar
In the evening, Bozar will host the Nobel Prize Dialogue Brussels. The evening brings together Nobel Prize winners, leading thinkers, policymakers and researchers to discuss the most pressing issue of our time. Major themes such as the power of stories in democracies, fact-based worldviews, AI and other technology will take centre stage.
