Five VUB scientists will be honoured at the award ceremony of the Royal Flemisch Academy of Belgium for Science and the Arts (KVAB) for their contribution to science communication: Guy Vantemsche for co-authoring the book World History of Flanders; Steven Goderis for communication on extra-terrestrial materials; and Ilse Mariën, Pieter Ballon and Wendy Van den Broeck for setting up the DataBuzz.
Guy Vanthemsche, with colleagues from UAntwerp, UGent and KU Leuven, will be awarded the annual prize for science communication for the book World History of Flanders, which reached a wide audience and will be a relevant reference work for future generations.
Steven Goderis wins for his communication and citizen science project on extra-terrestrial materials. It is a fine example of how stimulating and diversified science communication can bring research about complex topics to a wider audience.
Ilse Mariën, Pieter Ballon and Wendy Van den Broeck are recognised for their project Databuzz: Everybody Data! – a 100% electric mobile education lab that brings data and AI training to the general public in an accessible way.
