In renovations and new construction projects the card of energy reduction is played as a standard trick. Small renovations have led lighting, daylight maximalisation and 'presence steering' systems. Larger projects involve energy reduction as a central aspect of the concept. The new swimming pool will be first class in energy efficiency and the heating installation of the student rooms in Jette will reduce energy by 30 percent.
An energy work-out for all of us
Even though the gigantic construction pit on Campus Etterbeek may suggest the opposite, VUB is more than renovation and modern buildings. Renovating two campuses of 170.000 m² surface requires some time. VUB faces a large challenge to boost the heritage of the past to energy neutrality.
The gas usage on campus Etterbeek equals the yearly usage of 1200 families, the electricity usage even the yearly usage of 3900 families. Exactly on that aspect, every individual has a role to play. The university only buys green power, but the greenest energy is the one you do not use. The security staff switches off all public lights (halls, stairs, …) every night, but the office or classroom lights you have to switch off yourself.
The EcoTeam offers an infographic, a ‘daily reminder’ of concrete actions how everybody can help to reduce the energy usage and emission of greenhouse gasses.
Print the infografic on a recycled piece of scrap paper and project it on your infoscreens, which are switched off by night. Of course.
