Peter Schelkens, vice-rector for Innovation & Industry Relations
Peter Schelkens is a full professor in the Department of Electronics and Informatics (ETRO) at the VUB, with extensive experience in technology, interdisciplinary research and innovation. His expertise includes multidimensional signal processing and digital holography, for which he received a prestigious ERC Consolidator Grant. As Vice-Rectorate Innovation & Industry Relations, he builds on the strong foundation laid by his predecessors. He fosters collaboration between researchers and industry, strengthens valorisation pathways, and ensures knowledge security in a shifting geopolitical landscape. Guided by the principle as open as possible, as secure as necessary, he encourages researchers to reflect on the societal consequences of their work.
Peter Schelkens aims to deepen ties with industrial partners, research parks and strategic research centres, with a focus on both economic and societal impact. Under his leadership, the VUB continues to pursue innovation that contributes to a sustainable and responsible society.
