Yazan Badran is a Visiting Professor at the Department of Communication Sciences and a Postdoctoral researcher at the ECHO and  imec-SMIT research centres at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium. His research focuses on the nascent media spheres in the Arab World that developed following the 2011 uprisings including new and emerging forms of journalism in the region and within its exilic and diasporic communities.

In the Journalism and Media in Europe Master, Yazan teaches the mandatory course, Political Economy of Journalism in the EU, and the elective course Media, Culture, and Globalization Theories (co-taught with Prof. Jan Loisen). He supervises master theses on new media and politics in the MENA region, journalism and political satire, and emerging media.
