Following its positive evaluation in 2021, VUB is now preparing for a new institutional review in 2027. Such a review is more than an audit: it also provides an opportunity to critically reflect on what works well, where improvements can be made, and how we want to further develop our education.
Preparations are well underway. We are currently putting the finishing touches on our Critical Reflection, a document in which we take stock of the past years, highlighting both our strengths and areas for improvement. The document will be submitted on 30 September 2026. On 3 December 2026, the review panel will make its first visit to VUB. A more extensive site visit will follow on 9, 10 and 11 March 2027. During these visits, the panel will meet with students, academic staff, professional staff and the university leadership.
For VUB, this review comes at a particularly opportune moment. As we conclude our current policy cycle, we are simultaneously developing a new strategic plan for the years ahead. The perspective of independent experts can help us sharpen our thinking about what we want to preserve, what needs to change and where new opportunities lie. We therefore look forward to this review and to the panel’s questions, critical perspective and insights, which will help us shape the future of VUB together.
