Collaborate on a Master’s thesis in Industrial Sciences
With a strong master’s thesis proposal, companies collaborate with motivated students on concrete technological and societal challenges. This partnership sparks new insights and helps future industrial engineers further develop their talents.
Procedure
Step 1 – Submit the online form
Fill in the form below.
Step 2 – Evaluation of the proposal by VUB
We assess whether the proposal fits within the programme and is suitable for a master’s thesis. If approved, we assign a VUB supervisor who will provide academic guidance throughout the project.
Step 3 – Contact with interested students and thesis assignment
We share the approved proposal with our students, and you’ll receive a notification when we do. Interested students will contact the designated contact person directly. After discussion and mutual agreement, the topic is officially assigned to the student.
Step 4 – Master’s thesis agreement
VUB and your company sign an agreement outlining the arrangements, responsibilities, and insurance coverage. If desired, the collaboration can also take place under a non-disclosure agreement (NDA).
About the master’s thesis
A master’s thesis is an intensive scientific research project in which a student applies their knowledge in practice. In total, the student spends around 560 hours on this work. It is usually carried out individually, although collaboration between two students is also possible.
The master’s thesis starts from a clearly defined research question and must be feasible within the available time and resources. The project builds on existing insights from the literature or from practice and uses appropriate methods or experiments. The student justifies each choice and reports the results in a scientific and well-substantiated way.
The research results in a thesis of around 60 pages, in which the research question is addressed and the conclusions are clearly substantiated. Finally, the student defends their work before a jury: a 15-minute presentation followed by 25 minutes of questions and discussion.
