What is the ABC?đźš´
The ABC is an international cycling competition between universities worldwide. Students and staff pedal together for the honour of their university—and for their own health and enjoyment.
Every ride counts: whether it’s commuting to campus or cycling in your free time!
Why take part?
By logging your kilometres, you support three goals:
- Health: more movement and energy in your daily routine
- Climate: less COâ‚‚ emissions and fresher air
- Mobility: a smoother, more liveable city
Cycling perfectly aligns with VUB’s values as an Urban Engaged University. You also contribute to an active community and help our university climb the international rankings.
And there’s more: you could win some great prizes! Think a sturdy bike bag, a handy lock, or a group bike ride with Pro Velo in Brussels. The more kilometres you pedal, the higher your chances!
How does it work?
- Download the Naviki app and register
- Go to “Competitions” in the app and select ABC 2025
- Then choose “Vrije Universiteit Brussel” as your institution
- Start cycling! You can also create your own team within VUB (e.g., by department, student association, group of friends, etc.)

- 08/10 – Bicycle safety workshop with the Flemish Foundation for Road Safety (max. 16 participants)
- 14/10 – Bike repair session @Campus Etterbeek (max. 20 participants)
- 15/10 – Bike repair session @Campus Jette (max. 20 participants)
- 29/10 – Documentary screening: Women Don’t Cycle
- 30/10 – Basic Bike Mechanics workshop for students (max. 10 participants)
- 31/10 – Participation in Critical Mass Brussels (Green Team)
- 04/11 – Free bike breakfast for all participants, Esplanade @Campus Etterbeek
