AI is at a turning point. We know how to build it, but we do not yet fully understand how it works. It is a very confronting thought, Vincent Ginis realises. In this video, the VUB researcher outlines three crucial steps we will have to take.
What does Generation Alpha, born between 2010 and 2024, think of artificial intelligence? Not much good, if an article in The Guardian is to be believed. In the playground, “That’s so AI!” is said to have become a term of ridicule for anything that seems fake, cheap, unconvincing or of questionable quality. VUB professor Vincent Ginis belongs to Generation Y and takes a more nuanced view. He admits that artificial intelligence consumes enormous amounts of energy, infringes copyright, breaks into companies and puts pressure on the labour market. At the same time, however, the new technology is also putting science and medicine into overdrive. In any case, the future is not set in stone, Vincent Ginis argues. He explains how we can use AI in a responsible way.
