The event started at 11:30 a.m. with a photographer taking the first picture. Everyone who wanted a new LinkedIn profile picture was welcome to show up until 2 p.m. Meanwhile hungry students could enjoy a free lunch until 12:30 p.m.
Next up: Caroline Pauwels. She announced the contest showing what the Career Center has to offer students ready to jump in to the labour market. "It's a learning opportunity for both the student and myself. It will have a large impact on my work, I'm already looking forward to it. I'm especially looking out for students with certain competences and values:
Competences
- Teamwork
- Networking: bring in your network and get to know mine
- Empathy
- Leadership
- Innovation
Values
- Balance
- Integrity
- Tolerance
- Mildness
- Respect"
Registration is possible until April 29 through this link. Until early June there will be some tests, after which a bootcamp will start at June 6. The first week of the new academic year one lucky student will be rector for the week. He/she may even give a speech during the Academic Opening.
We want to bridge the gap between students and the labour market
“It’s our goal to bridge the gap between students and the labour market”, says Caroline Vercauteren from The Adecco Group. “That’s why we launched the Rector for One Week contest. There is no better way to find out what ‘the real world’ feels like than to accompany someone who’s living in it with both feet.
Inspiration
Aline Baeyens is a Career Center employee who the contest CEO for One Month last May. This resulted in our own contest Rector for One Week. Aline studied Linguistics at Ghent University, so she’s a perfect example for showing how a university degree can bring us places we would have never thought. The same goes for Laure Hermans, who studied Educational Sciences and is now also working at the VUB Career Center.
Of course, it doesn’t hurt if you know what your future employer is expecting from you. That’s what the Career Center is offering: guidance in creating your curriculum vitae, in discovering and honing your skills, and in how to best sell yourself. The three workshops at the kick-off were a perfect example of what the Career Center is offering.
Registration is required and can be done here.
