The main aim of this ‘birthday week’ is to put the spotlight on the demanding combination of working, studying and a social life as well as the specific needs of working students. For 40 years now, students tackle this challenging combination, which is all but a simple task.

Besides a birthday cake and a glass of sparkles the university puts up some playful actions: an improvised carwash for working students, an ironing service and an anti-stress massage. Our photographer shoots class pictures and surprise acts cheer up the lectures.

Special programme on both evening campuses

The study guidance centre organises special coaching sessions for working students: in Jette on Monday 21/11 from 5 to 6pm, in Etterbeek on Tuesday 22/11 from 6 to 8pm. The Student Information Hub will open till 10pm the whole working week.

In Jette the fun part will take place on Tuesday and Thursday in and near building A. A ‘food ambulance’ will offer a free dinner for all working students. In Etterbeek activities take place in Building D and in the recently opened Student Lounge “1050”, in which the administrative staff and regular students will serve you at the bar.

St-Wé, the Week of the Working Student, also wants to stimulate social interaction.

Volunteers wanted

To indulge our working students during their celebration week, we are still looking for volunteers. Have you ever dreamed of washing the car of a real working student? Are you a champ in cutting birthday cakes or pop champaign bottles? Or do you want to help us out with the ironing?
Socially engaged, enthusiast students and staff that want to help us out, can contact the Student Information Hub: info@vub.ac.be.

The full programme can be found on MY.VUB.

During the second semester also the lecturers who engage in evening teaching will be celebrated. Also their motivation is crucial in creating the opportunity to study while working.
