The Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) has announced the appointment of Tineke Sonck as its new spokesperson. Sonck brings with her more than 17 years of experience in strategic communication and public relations. She will officially commence her new role on 15 August 2025.
A graduate in Communication Sciences from the VUB, Sonck is making a return to the university where she once studied. Her previous roles include serving as spokesperson for former Flemish Minister Bert Anciaux and acting for several years as the Dutch-speaking press officer for Paul Magnette and the Parti Socialiste. Her expertise also spans the private sector, having worked as an account manager at Wunderman Brussels, where she managed international campaigns for Visit.Brussels.
Jan Danckaert, Rector of the VUB
“The VUB aspires to be a critical and independent voice in both scientific and societal debates. Communication plays a pivotal role in that mission. With Tineke, we are bringing on board someone with keen media insight, political experience, and a strong strategic profile.”
Ann Van Driessche, Director of Marketing and Communications
“Over the past year, the press team has taken on the role of spokesperson with great dedication and professionalism. Thanks to their efforts, the VUB has become more visible in the media, and our narrative has been conveyed clearly. I am sincerely grateful to them for that. With Tineke’s arrival, we are building further on that solid foundation.”
