The collaboration between the two universities has a long history and was formalised in 2010, when a first agreement was signed.
 
Kobe University has its European headquarters in Brussels on the VUB campus in Etterbeek. This obviously simplifies the development of new ways of collaborating as well as the exploration of new research options.
 
The joint conference ‘Emerging Sciences and the changing world: EU-Japan in transition’ was held at VUB Campus Etterbeek on November 8th. The leading researchers for this conference hailed from both universities.The four extensively discussed topics were: data science, immigration and security, partical physics and cultural diversity.
