On the 5th October, dr. Irene Kamara won the prestigious Standards+Innovation award, category Individual Researcher/Innovator.’ The excellence award was given to Irene by CEN and CENELEC, the European Standardisation Organisations, for her contribution to standardisation. The award is presented annually to one individual who successfully introduces her/his research outcome or innovation into standardization, thereby creating impact for her/his work. Irene was nominated by NEN, the Dutch Standardisation Institute.
Irene recently obtained her PhD in Law from the VUB (LSTS) and the Tilburg University (TILT). Her PhD project focused on the role and limitations of technical standards in regulating the right to protection of personal data. She currently works as Assistant Professor Cybersecurity Governance at Tilburg Law School and is affiliated researcher to the VUB's research groups Law, Science, Technology, and Society.
