What is SIMON?
SIMON, the Study Skills and Interest Monitor, is a tool that helps you make an informed study choice and supports you throughout your entire bachelor's programme.
As a prospective student, Ask SIMON helps you discover which programme truly fits you. Once you're a student at VUB, SIMON Says continues to support you by providing insight into your academic skills, personalised actions, and a clear overview of your study progress.

Not sure yet which direction to take? Wondering whether a programme is really right for you? Or are you already a student, but unsure about your current study choice? With Ask SIMON, you'll discover which VUB programmes match your interests and skills.
Interest profile
Are you more analytical or creative? Sociable or technical? Based on a questionnaire, you'll get an overview of programmes that suit you, including ones you might never have considered.
Academic readiness
Through various tests, you can assess how prepared you are for university studies. You'll gain insight into skills such as mathematics, reading comprehension, and study skills, and see how they align with the requirements of your chosen programme.
Chances of success
For each programme, SIMON calculates a personalized estimate of your chances of succeeding, so you can make a study choice with realistic expectations.

SIMON Says
SIMON Says is the extension of the study choice tool and supports you as a student from the start of your programme with personalized actions and messages.
Strengthen your academic readiness
At the start of your bachelor's, you'll gain insight into how prepared you are for university studies: how do you score on the skills that matter for your programme? You'll immediately see where you're strong and where there's room to improve, along with personalized recommendations and concrete actions to further strengthen your skills.
Monitor your study progress
SIMON Says also tracks your study progress. The study progress bar lets you see at a glance how things are going. SIMON flags risks early and links them to concrete steps you can take yourself, so you stay in the driver's seat of your studies.
Did you already fill out Ask SIMON?
When you officially enroll at VUB, you can choose to carry your results over into SIMON Says. That way, you get support from day one that's tailored to your interests, skills, and chances of success.
SIMON Says goes live in September 2026 for all first-year bachelor's students. After the January exam session, all bachelor's students will get access to the tool.
