The Jean Monnet Summer School on EU Policy Making cordially invites you to its public panel discussion addressing the challenges related to the current status and future of the EU’s relationship with the US. The panel will take place on 30 June 2025 from 15:30 to 16.45. We are honoured to welcome distinguished speakers from both academia and policymaking institutions:
-
Frank Hoffmeister, European External Action Service
-
Alexander Mattelaer, Vrije Universiteit Brussel
-
Krisztián Mészáros, NATO
-
Elie Perot, Brussels School of Governance
The opening panel discussion aims to explore EU-US relations following the onset of the second Trump presidency. Panellists from academia, NATO and EU institutions will discuss the future of transatlantic co-operation, the path forward for NATO as well as the EU’s response to the changing geopolitical landscape as it witnesses one of its closest and most important allies breaking with traditional approaches, introducing an element of uncertainty into what was long considered a stable relationship. How should and how can NATO and the EU adapt in this new era for transatlantic relations? How should the transatlantic security partnership evolve to remain viable? Can the risk of a global tariff war be avoided? Can the EU and the United States coordinate their policies with regard to big tech? And how can Europe and the United States still align their efforts concerning Russia’s war in Ukraine?
A Q&A with the audience will follow the panel discussion. If you wish to attend, please register using the Registration button.
